Will our Matterport virtual tour start automatically and play like a film, looping back to the start?

Question: Can we use our Matterport virtual tour on our reception screen like a film?

In recent years, I’ve regularly created a film version of a Matterport virtual tour for customers if they want it to play on a loop, for example, on their reception screen or at a trade show. When converted to a film format, the virtual tour will then play on a screen on loop. However, this isn’t always ideal as the results of turning a virtual tour into a film have been mixed.

However, there is a way of creating a version of their Matterport virtual tour into something similar to a film. All you then need to do is open the link on a screen that has an internet connection (for example a smart screen), press play once, and the virtual tour will open and automatically start the highlight reel, looping back to the start when finished.

The main benefits of this over converting the virtual tour to a film is that the quality is much better. The following example is the a hotel in Lyon, France (we produce virtual tours throughout the UK and France):

You can try this on your own screen – open this link to a Matterport virtual tour on the screen you would like to try. It will open in your internet browser.

Why would you want your Matterport virtual tour start automatically and play like a film, looping back to the start?

A virtual tour fundamentally is an interactive type of media, which is why it’s often much better than a film at giving your potential customers an immersive experience. However, it’s often useful to have both a film and virtual tour as they’re used for different purposes. Films are passive media meaning they’re designed for people to watch, so when there is a situation where you can’t provide the interactivity, such as a factory or office reception screen, you can include your virtual tour to behave more like a film, killing two birds with stone. Obviously, there is also the matter of the extra expense you’d need to lay out for a separate film.
